The theme of the classes offered this summer through the St.Clair Art Association’s Art Center is Christmas in July. I thought to myself, as that will be easy, I'll just teach stuff that I've done in the past and not add much new stuff. Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!
It meant new Christmas themed patterns for my finger puppets, done from scratch. It meant crocheting three winter themed dish cloths to have as examples. It meant coming up with two new science projects to have enough to run the full class session. It meant making up a whole new bunch of material sheets and directions on how to do the new stuff. It meant ordering new supplies. It meant taking and/or creating pictures of all the new projects.
It turns out that I have spent much of my time for the last three weeks getting ready for summer classes. I should be done by now; but I still have to finish red noses for the reindeer puppet, putting together packets for each of the paper craft and science projects, writing a whole bunch of new stuff, or modifying what was used before. I am still crocheting the last of the dish cloths, fingers crossed, I hope to be able to finish that today. Then I have to block them so they look pretty for the pictures. I still need to fold and photograph the Santa and the Rudolph finger puppets, and put together my Cartesian diver demo, along with photographing it. Whew!
The rush comes in part from the upcoming SCAA Art Fair the last weekend in June. We need to have all our class stuff ready by the end of this month so the office manager can get the classes up on the website before she is totally overwhelmed with art fair work.
Take care, and stay well. Put your mask back on indoors, as the transmission level of Covid is high in St. Clair county, as well as many other places east of the Mississippi.
